Here\u2019s an update on what\u2019s new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.mytutor.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/02.20_MYTUTOR_LESSONSPACE_ZOOMV2-e1591721863623-1024x712-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-943 lazyload\" width=\"448\" height=\"311\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 448px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 448\/311;\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mytutor.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/02.20_MYTUTOR_LESSONSPACE_ZOOMV2-e1591721863623-1024x712-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-943\" width=\"448\" height=\"311\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Work with school pupils<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Programme update<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We know that many of you saw a slowdown in lessons when schools closed &#8211; and we understand the worry and financial uncertainty this caused. Since April, we\u2019ve been working hard to get our schools programmes back on track, and have made some good headway: 71% of schools have now restarted their programmes, and the rest will be kicking off again in the Autumn term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>EEF tuition pilot<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re excited to be working with the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) on a landmark national tuition pilot to support 1,000 disadvantaged school pupils to catch up on lost learning over the summer. There\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk\/news\/online-tuition-pilot-launched-school-closures-could-undo-progress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">more detail on that here<\/a> &#8211; and keep an eye out for new tutor opportunities becoming available in the next few weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>DBS checks<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, we know that some of you are keen to get background checked so that you can start supporting school pupils. Because we\u2019re keen to make sure there\u2019s enough work to go around, we&#8217;re not recruiting any more schools tutors at the moment, so we&#8217;ve put a hold on processing DBS checks for now. But we\u2019ll be keeping a close eye on this &#8211; and if there\u2019s more work available over summer, we\u2019ll open this back up again if needed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Work with private students<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Demand on the rise<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>No-one\u2019s really sure when exactly schools are going to re-open fully (not even the government\u2026 ahem), and this means that more and more parents are looking for ways to keep learning going at home.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Normally we\u2019d expect to see bookings drop off after May (with exams out of the way), but this year, with no exams, we\u2019re bucking this trend. We\u2019ve had over 700 Free Meeting requests so far in June, and over 80% of pupils and parents are continuing to re-book each week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s brilliant to see so many parents coming to us for support, but we\u2019re mindful that it\u2019s still a very uncertain time &#8211; so we\u2019re keeping our freeze on new tutor recruitment in place until we\u2019re confident that more tutors are needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In the news<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Online learning has become the new normal in lockdown, and MyTutor has been hitting the headlines! We\u2019re really proud to have helped over 8,000 students through the group tutorials, while also bringing new audiences to the site <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/education-and-careers\/2020\/05\/11\/sons-gcse-year-has-abandoned-lockdown-should-parents-like-do\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">with some fantastic coverage.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Online School made a huge difference to thousands of parents and students during lockdown &#8211; here\u2019s just one little nugget of feedback to give you a sense of the impact: \u201cDear MyTutor team, Thank you for the extra tutorials. Absolutely priceless at this trying time. So grateful to the whole team and the tutors.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Future of group tutorials<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Off the back of the success of the Online School, we\u2019re currently dipping our toe in with a&nbsp; very small trial of paid group sessions, to test out the format and gauge appetite from parents.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this trial, we\u2019ve approached tutors who filled in our \u2018expression of interest\u2019 form on the Tutor Forum &#8211; though unfortunately, because we\u2019re only running 7 classes so far, and because over 300 tutors signed up, we haven\u2019t been able to follow up with everyone who was interested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once we\u2019ve run this trial and got an idea of whether it\u2019s worth making group tutorials a bigger feature of our platform, we\u2019ll let you know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Improving the platform<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In our Spring survey, you gave us lots of helpful feedback on where we need to improve the platform. Our Product team have digested all your suggestions and are now busy designing and developing improvements to two priority areas: our mobile app and the lesson space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 100 of you have signed up to be \u2018Alpha testers\u2019 of our lesson space, and we\u2019re excited to start working with you. You&#8217;ll be test-driving our newest designs and helping us decide what the new lesson space should look like.
