Finding work over the summer is a great way to add to your CV and earn some extra money.
\nBuilding your CV<\/strong>
\nGet the process started by\u00a0writing a CV. You need to include your exam results, work experience or previous jobs and your\u00a0contact information. Then print out 10-20 copies and hand them out around the local cafes, pubs,\u00a0restaurants and shops. Make sure to show off your enthusiasm when interacting with the employees you speak with.<\/p>\n

Following up<\/strong>
\nOnce you\u2019ve\u00a0handed in your CV you need to go back within the week to ask if they have any opportunities\u00a0for you. Do not wait for them to contact you. A pro-active mentality will greatly increase your chances of securing a position. It shows that you are committed and willing to take the initiative at work.<\/p>\n

Starting work<\/strong>
\nYour first\u00a0day will probably be quite intense, so it is important to stay calm.\u00a0Listen to the advice of your colleagues \u2013 they will want you to improve just as much as you do. Another important\u00a0thing is to ensure your uniform is washed and ironed. You will look\u00a0respectable and show your\u00a0commitment to the role.<\/p>\n

How many hours?<\/strong>
\nAlways do what you feel comfortable with. If you find that you need more money, work more hours. Also the more hours you work, the less time you have to go out and spend.\u00a0However, once the summer is\u00a0over try not to work more than 1-2 days a week and keep your shifts to the weekend. When you are back at school or university you will need to turn your attention towards your studies.<\/p>\n

Pay<\/strong>
\nUnfortunately,\u00a0you\u2019ll most likely be working for minimum wage. For 16-18 year\u00a0olds this is \u00a33.87,\u00a0for 18-20 year olds it rises to \u00a35.30 and for 21-24 year olds it rises to \u00a36.70. Some jobs may offer a slightly higher rate of pay, others might provide non-pay based incentives, such as free lunch or store discount. These are all important factors when selecting an opportunity.<\/p>\n
