MyTutor partner schools celebrate outstanding GCSE results

We’ve loved hearing about the fantastic GCSE results that our partner schools achieved this year. Their success is well deserved after a year of hard work by teachers and students alike and innovative education strategy by their fantastic teaching teams. Here are some highlights, as seen in the press:

Celebrating progress at Walworth Academy

Walworth Academy in South London achieved an impressive Progress 8 score of 0.4, and 60% of their pupils achieved an A*-C/9-4 in at least 5 subjects.

Jack Burt, who received MyTutor support in maths, achieved 9s in maths and English language, A*s in biology, chemistry, physics and Spanish, an A in history and a 7 in English Literature. He said "I'm going to stay at Walworth Academy and do A Levels in biology, maths and physics. You get what you put in to achieve results like these, I'm really happy."

Samuel received science tuition with MyTutor, and has been awarded a scholarship to study for his A Levels at Rugby School following his outstanding GCSE results. “I’m hoping to study maths, further maths, physics and music next year for my A Levels, with a view to studying engineering at Imperial College London. I have my future all planned out!”

Winifred achieves record results

“I am delighted to be reporting significant improvements across the board and our best results ever!” said Headteacher Mark Brown. “There have been some outstanding personal achievements with the new Grade 9 being recorded in both mathematics and English. Overall, our core subjects have improved significantly, along with a wide range of other key GCSE and BTEC subjects.”

Achieving excellence at Folkestone School for Girls

This year’s cohort of GCSE students at Folkestone School for Girls achieved an incredible 98% pass rate.

Tracey Luke, the Headteacher at the school, was delighted with these results. “I am very proud of the girls and the staff as they have coped admirably with great turbulence and change. The ability of the girls and the expertise of the teaching staff has won through.”

Outstanding results at Sandbach School

This year, an impressive 75% of students at Sandbach school achieved 5 A*-C grades, including English and Maths.

“A whopping 8% of the cohort achieved a Grade 9 (more challenging than the old A*) in both English and Maths, which compares very favourably against the national expectation of just 2% for English and 3% for Maths,” said a school spokesperson.

Horndean soars above national average

This results day, an impressive 75% and 67% of Horndean students achieved a 4 or above for Maths and English, respectively, compared to national averages of 59.4% and 62%.

“I’m very proud of the students here because they accepted the demands of these two subjects and worked their absolute hardest to make sure they passed.” Said Julie Summerfield, Horndean principle.

Furness Academy celebrates fantastic results

There were smiles all round at Furness this results day as students picked up their GCSE results.

“I am very proud of what our students have accomplished and we wish them every success for the future.”

“We are delighted that a number of students were able to achieve the new top grade in mathematics and English, which is only awarded to the top 3% of students in the country. I am very proud of what our students have accomplished and we wish them every success for the future.” Said Headteacher Simon Laheney.

Djanogly City Academy achieves record results for second year running

This year, Djanogly City Academy in Nottingham achieved an impressive 51% pass rate at GCSE: a record result for their second consecutive year.

Mexhisan Coku is celebrating success after achieving 4 A*s, 5 As, a 9, a 7 and a 6 in his GCSEs, having arrived in the UK from Greece unable to speak English just 7 years ago.

He received tuition in physics with MyTutor in the lead up to his exams, and is now hoping to go on to study Astrophysics at Cambridge: “I would love to go to space in the future. It’s going to be hard work but I can do it.”

Success at Beauchamp College

Beauchamp student Shonagh achieved grades 9, 6 and 6 in English Literature, English Language and Maths respectively, having received tuition with MyTutor in the lead up to her exams.

“I really didn’t expect to do very well. I decided to really push myself with the support of my teachers and family and managed to get my confidence back.”

She said: “I really didn’t expect to do very well. I was bullied at my old school and was so shy and nervous when I started at Beauchamp that I couldn’t even stand up to talk in class. I suffered with anxiety and low confidence so doing something like that simply terrified me.“

High standards maintained at High Tunstall College

A huge congratulations to High Tunstall students this results day, as many students achieved top results in their GCSEs.

“GCSE is harder now than it has ever been and the pressure for all our young people is immense” said headteacher Mark Tilling. “We would like to pay tribute to every one of our 2017 leavers and the hard work and dedication they showed during their GCSE examinations, and wish them the very best for their future.”
