About me

Hi, I'm Amelia and am a third-year student studying Modern Languages and Cultures at Durham University. I am absolutely passionate about learning languages and exploring different cultures. Not only do I find it very satisfying being able to communicate with others in a different language, but also knowing other languages opens doors to exploring foreign literature and films.

I am very eager to teach students who need help with French, Spanish or Italian at GCSE level and French at A'level. I find teaching very exciting as I love being able to pass on my passion to other students and find it rewarding when my students make clear improvements. I have had a lot of tutoring experience in the past, such as teaching Year 9 students Spanish as one of my roles as Modern Languages Mentor at school, teaching English to Spanish children when I was an au-pair in Madrid and teaching English to German children for 6 months during my year abroad in Braunschweig. My bubbly personality combined with my patience puts all my students at ease straight away!

About my sessions

My sessions are designed to meet the student’s needs, whether it be by improving their vocabulary, grammar, oral, written work or comprehension of written or auditory texts. Depending on the area of difficulty, I can give regular tests to track their progress and help them focus their revision. No questions are ever to big or small for me, all I want is to give my students as much help as possible. I will also try and make the lessons as engaging and interactive as possible, for example doing...

Depending on the area of difficulty, I can give regular tests to track their progress and help them focus their revision. No questions are ever to big or small for me, all I want is to give my students as much help as possible. I will also try and make the lessons as engaging and interactive as possible, for example doing role-plays when practising oral work and games to help the students learn new vocabulary. I want students to see that learning a language can be fun as well as useful.

I booked a couple of face to face sessions across a single weekend with Amelia for my son to help prepare for his French Oral GCSE mock. This was very much last minute but Amelia came to the sessions well prepared and ready to go. After the first session my son said that he had got an unexpected amount of benefit from it so I asked Amelia whether it would be possible to have two lessons the next day rather than the one I had booked and Amelia replied very quickly that would be fine. By the end of the three sessions my son felt far more confident on the eve of his exam and was actually looking forward to it! To me, that speaks volumes. We're very grateful to Amelia for all her help and can recommend her unreservedly.

Amelia is an outstanding tutor, who hugely helped me with my French GCSE. Not only did she boost my confidence with speaking and understanding French but also tailored our lessons to help improve the specific areas in which I needed the most practice. I could not thank her enough as I would definitely not have been able to achieve as strongly without her.
