About me

Hi there!

I'm a second year History and French student at Oxford University, as well as being a fluent French speaker. I specialise in French grammar, and XIXth century French literature, and I really enjoy sharing that passion with others. Having moved to France at six years old, I understand the difficulties of learning a new language, and how to overcome those issues, as well as how to best learn grammar so that it becomes a more intuitive element of writing, rather...

I specialise in French grammar, and XIXth century French literature, and I really enjoy sharing that passion with others. Having moved to France at six years old, I understand the difficulties of learning a new language, and how to overcome those issues, as well as how to best learn grammar so that it becomes a more intuitive element of writing, rather than a hinderance.

I went to a French State comprehensive, and I fully understand the pressure that students feel as they approach exams and university applications. It is very important to me that I do everything I can to make that process easier!

I am also passionate about music, and belong to an A Capella group in my university!

About my sessions

Depending on the goals of the students I would focus more heavily on literature or language, but most of my sessions would be text-based. By this I mean that I would first explain a difficult concept (literary of grammatical) for the student, illustrate it with example phrases, and then provide a short exercise for the student to do with my guidance. The exercises would either be sentences with grammatical mistakes in for them to correct, or sentences to translate into French with interesting...

By this I mean that I would first explain a difficult concept (literary of grammatical) for the student, illustrate it with example phrases, and then provide a short exercise for the student to do with my guidance. The exercises would either be sentences with grammatical mistakes in for them to correct, or sentences to translate into French with interesting grammatical elements, or a short text for them to provide commentary and analysis of. Depending on the results of those exercises, I would provide further explanation, or further example texts for the students to practise with.

Learning through practice is much more constructive than being lectured at or learning rules by heart. Interacting with the material and being able to talk it over (and question it) with someone who loves the subject and who knows how hard and stressful exams can be is extremely important in making progress and maintaining motivation!
