About me

Biology is my passion in life. I adore the natural world and in how organisms in it develop, behave and evolve. I feel strongly for environmental protection and believe one of the best ways to achieve this is to spread my knowledge and passion, showing others how incredible and precious the diversity of life is.

Biology is my passion in life. I adore the natural world and in how organisms in it develop, behave and evolve. I feel strongly for environmental protection and believe one of the best ways to achieve this is to spread my knowledge and passion, showing others how incredible and precious the diversity of life is.

As a Biological Sciences graduate, I have firm understanding in animal behaviour, genetics, evolution, ecosystems and most topics. Though ecology is my passion, I feel equally comfortable in the cellular and molecular concepts that underpin biology, such as photosynthesis and respiration. During my summers at University, I embarked on expeditions to Croatia and Mexico as a Research Assistant, furthering my understanding of animals in the wild. I volunteered at the Bristol Festival of Nature and was the president of my University Ape Conservation Society. This has given me experience in public engagement and in creating and delivering educational workshops in schools.

I now want to further my teaching skills, as a step towards future academic research. I love speaking to people with an interest in Biology but uncertainty in a future direction. Obtaining high marks often requires a clear writing style, this is something I have particularly worked on and can offer help with, as well as offering wisdom in work and time management strategies that helped me. I can’t wait to hear from you!

About my sessions

I believe in three key aspects to successful learning: setting realistic goals, getting constructive feedback and teaching to engage each student individually.

Within each session, spending the first few minutes establishing goals the student wants to achieve, and finishing reviewing information learnt is vital for effective learning. A goal should be something achievable in the time frame, challenging but realistic within the student’s abilities, and measurable.

Obtaining good feedback on work produced is what the top students use to improve. Therefore, I will endeavour to think carefully on work I review, and give comments to challenge the student and enable them to seek how to improve their work.

Everybody learns differently. As Albert Einstein once said, ‘everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will spend its whole life thinking it is stupid.’ Having patience in understanding how each of my students will learn most effectively is vital to make the most of tutoring one-to-one.

Particularly at A level, learning to take the initiative and work independently is important. I have been through this process, and as I tutor I will endeavour to push students to work and think independently, trying to avoid spoon-feeding information. This is also an effective method for long-term learning which later saves revision time.
