Why did I choose Mathematics?:

100% because I absolutely love the subject. I have always had a passion for problem-solving and that’s what studying maths is all about. The satisfaction you feel when finally cracking a tough problem or understanding a new concept is unparalleled.

Why me as your Tutor?:

I have a lot of experience tutoring at all levels on MyTutor and have plenty of experience teaching younger years in maths and science through my school. I am incredibly confident with A-level maths and having had a lot of practice tutoring I am a personable yet dynamic tutor.

I have done a lot of Mathematics at A-level, both Maths and Further Maths A-levels (both A*) and Further Additional Maths AS (A). To manage this, I had to work out what was most crucial to helping me learn. I balanced all this work (15 modules – 2 and a half A-levels) on top of Chemistry and Biology A-levels (both A*) and so my technique for learning had to be efficient. Using my experience, my tutorial structure (below) is well thought out, working on learning maths efficiently and effectively like I had to.

The key to my success was confidence and motivation and I know as your tutor I will be able to give you both.

About my sessions

During my maths tutoring experience, I've found one of the main problems that stops people reaching their full potential is low self-confidence in their ability. My sessions aim to boost how comfortable the student is using an encouraging environment. They are tuned not only to teach but to give confidence.

The student is in complete control of what we cover. I ask students to message me with an area of maths or a question they are struggling with before the tutorial allowing me to...

I ask students to message me with an area of maths or a question they are struggling with before the tutorial allowing me to prepare an engaging lesson:

> At first, I will cover the problematic mathematical concepts, followed by going through a few questions together and explaining it step by step.

> This advances to the student having a go at some questions themselves. I will help if needed but the focus is on the student becoming confident using the maths independently.

> Next, I will get the student to teach it back to me, talking through the basic concepts and explaining how to solve a problem step by step. This is well shown to highlight remaining holes in understanding allowing me to help more acutely, building their self-confidence and long-term memory.

> Finally, I can hand out a few more related questions to try at home, to mark together in the next tutorial, helping them learn it and remember it confidently!
