About me

I am currently studying Psychology at university as I am really intrigued about the science behind human behaviour. What excites me most about my course is that I have the opportunity to study multiple areas of this science, and I can explore the different opinions of psychologists as to why certain human behaviours occur. What excites me most about my course is that I have the opportunity to study multiple areas of this science, and I can explore the different opinions of psychologists as to why certain human behaviours occur. During both primary and secondary school, I experienced the process of sitting a variety of exams, and whilst the ones that occured later on in secondary school were stressful, I always tried to not get overwhelmed and focus on trying to fully understand the content of each subject. As for applying to university, I chose ones that I believed would best suit me, in terms of what areas of psychology the courses covered, and how I felt in each environment during the Open Days. Currently, at university I am a part of multiple societies, including International and European Law Society as I am additionally interested in the world of law and its links with psychology. As well as this I often play games with the Mixed-Netball teams, and I am also a part of Film Society, where we watch and discuss modern and classic movies.

I believe I can help my tutees improve by ensuring they fully understand a topic or method with regular practice, and to also increase their confidence with areas that they struggle with. My tutorials will be structured on a step-by-step basis, where topics will be broken down into more manageable chunks, practiced to ensure understanding, and then pieced together to be practiced using past exam questions. The learning techniques that I think work well include practicing and reflecting on mistakes, where the tutees can see why they may have gotten questions or elements of questions wrong, and how they can improve in the future. These improvements will also be a good way to measure progress. For me, when I was studying for my own exams, a method that worked well was going through past exam questions and identifying what they were asking for and what would get me marks. From this I then developed methods for specific types of questions to ensure I could achieve the most marks for each one efficiently. I feel this would be a good method to use with the tutees as not only will it help them achieve marks but also it removes some of the uncertainty surrounding exams and making them appear less intimidating. The main element that I think is important to encourage learning is removing as much fear and stress surrounding it as possible, as I believe the tutee can fully engage with the content that way.
