About me

Hi! I'm a third year student at the University of Birmingham studying French, German and Russian. I am passionate about learning languages but also love learning about other cultures and travelling. Some of my best summers have been spent exploring Germany, including doing work experience in a Bavarian Tourist Office and spending time with German friends and I'm really looking forward to my year abroad where I'll get to spend time in 3 different countries.

Having done exams recently I recognise the importance of different teaching styles and building confidence for GCSEs and A-Levels. I also have experience with 11+ as I took and passed 3 entrance exams.

I have a younger sister and so have spent many hours helping her understand topics. I have also helped explain subjects to younger friends and when I was in year 12 I tutored a year 8 pupil in French. This means I know how important it is to adapt teaching style to suit the student as everyone is different.

I have been volunteering with my local Guide unit for almost 6 years and so am used to communicating with young people. I am an avid reader and have spent the last few summers volunteering at my local library with the Summer Reading Scheme.

At university I am a member of the Sign Language Society Committee. I also enjoy cooking and spending time out of doors,

I look forward to hearing from you!

About my sessions

First I will get to know the student and discuss difficult topics for them. I will also discuss teaching styles. From this I will be able to tailor sessions in order for the student to make greater progress.

I will provide practice questions or recommend resources to aid learning and will also revise topics covered in previous sessions to help keep on top of the subject as a whole.

I will aim to make sessions as engaging as possible with lots of practice to ensure understanding. <...

If a student has a specific topic which needs addressing I am more than happy to do one-off sessions.

I used to get between by 50s and 60s in German, but in my iGCSEs I got an amazing 92 percent which is an A*, thanks to her. I am extremely happy, because we managed to do this, in limited sessions too. Very glad to have had her as a tutor and a major recommendation for anyone taking German.

Emma is an excellent tutor and I made progress in German due to her that seemed impossible at the beginning of the school year. She always tailored lessons around what suited me best and what I wanted to focus on, and supplied resources that were incredibly useful. Ever patient, she listened to me practice speaking for what must have felt like a million years and I highly recommend her.

Had multiple, very productive sessions in German, tackling all aspects (Speaking, Reading, Listening and Writing), and I am in the midst of my iGCSEs right now, but thanks to Emma they are going really well :).

Covered a lot of doubts, and was very helpful throughout the lesson. She helped with German speaking and grammar in an efficient and supportive manner.
