About me

I am a second year physicist studying at the University of Birmingham. I achieved a first in my first year exams and am on track to do the same this year. I'd be happy to tutor in mostly maths and physics.

I love physics as it's constantly evolving with new discoveries being made all the time. Also, it can explain so many things, and physics can be seen all the time in the real world. The subject is so much more than what you learn in the classroom at school. Maths...

I love physics as it's constantly evolving with new discoveries being made all the time. Also, it can explain so many things, and physics can be seen all the time in the real world. The subject is so much more than what you learn in the classroom at school. Maths is just the language of physics, so enjoying these two subjects goes hand in hand.

I believe I'd be a good tutor because I am friendly and approachable, with a genuine passion for the subject I study. Also, I am considering teaching after I have finished my degree, so tutoring is excellent experience for me.

Outside of my studies, I have an interest in music. I regularly attend live concerts and am classically trained at a grade 8 level in singing. At university, I am part of a small choir that rehearses weekly for fun and also does the occasional performance. Finally, I am part of the benchball team at university. It doesn't require much skill but it's a fun way to stay active.

About my sessions

I hope to help my students improve by encouraging a passion for the subject and to provide them with a better general understanding. Also I am very approachable so I think my students would be comfortable asking me questions and not feel embarrassed to tell me if they're finding something difficult.

The structure of my sessions would begin with me going over the topic until the student has gained a suitable understanding. Then I would go through a few examples. After this, I would ask the student to do some practice questions (offering help if needed) until I am satisfied that the topic fully makes sense to them.

I think the most effective learning technique is applying your knowledge. That's why I would hope to include several examples and questions in each session. In my opinion, nothing can help you be more prepared than practice. I also think it's important to ask questions if something isn't understood.

When I was preparing for exams in school, I found it very useful to do lots of past papers, for the reasons mentioned above. I also think it's important to start revising early, because then you won't have to rush and will still be able to balance doing things you enjoy, with working. Finally, don't set yourself an unrealistic revision plan, as this will just cause stress.
