About me

I’ve been tutoring maths full time since I graduated from Durham University (Mathematics and Philosophy) in 2014 and I have learnt a lot in that time.  My experience means that I can effectively tailor lesson plans to individual students needs. I have also become used to recognising any weaknesses students might have in the basics and over time I have built up a backlog of methods for addressing these as and when they arise.

Instead of simply reiterating methods students may have covered in classes I focus on getting students to explain their thought processes as we work through problems; this way students can tackle a variety of questions, instead of just memorising techniques.

Most of all I thoroughly enjoy tutoring and getting to know my students. For me, helping to build confidence is key, I want my students to be able to go on and tackle classwork and exams confidently outside of our lessons.

I’m free Monday-Thursday evenings but if you are looking for a different time, maybe even during the daytime, please let me know as I am very flexible.

I look forward to hearing from you.

(I’m currently studying for a master’s degree in philosophy at the University of Amsterdam.)

Questions Hannah has answered

When I multiple two negative numbers together is my answer positive or negative?

My favourite way to remember whether my answer is positive or negative when I multiply two numbers is to think of the following:

a) If you multiply two numbers with the SAME sign (i.e. two positive numbers or two negative numbers) the result will be POSITIVE.

+  x  +  = +

-  x  -  =  +

b) If you multiple two numbers with OPPOSITE signs the result will be NEGATIVE.

-  x  +  = +

+  x  -  =  +

For example:

a)

6  x  2  = 12

-6  x -2  = 12

b)

-6  x  2  =  -12

6  x  -2  =  -12
