About me

I am a Quaternary Science MSc student. What is Quaternary Science? Researching the past 2.5 million years of the Earth's history. I study it because the past is key to the present; things that have happened to the environment in the past could happen again in the future.

Why does this matter? There is only one Earth and I feel we have to protect it. This led me to join the sustainability group and my secondary school and during 6th form. I also became a student sustainability champion during my Geography BSc course at King's College London.

My interest in Quaternary Science developed during my dissertation project. I used chemicals within peat to reconstruct the climate of Brunei, located in Borneo, over the last 5000 years. This was a fantastic opportunity - it's one of the reasons I continued on to study MSc quaternary science at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Though I do care very deeply about Quaternary science, my academic interests are much broader. I have loved Geography throughout my education. As it is an interdisciplinary subject, I have a broad range of interests. With that said, I am particularly interested in anything involving the environment.

I intend to help students improve in three ways:

- Explaining the academic content in

- Explaining how to answer the question being asked.

- Helping students to enjoy the subject

About my sessions

My tutoring style will differ depending on the student, as each student learns in a different way. Before a session I will ask a student which areas they struggle, so that I can dedicate some of the session specifically to address this area of weakness. Each session will be typically broken down into 3 parts:

Sessions may begin on recapping the last session. This could include a conversation about

what was learnt, or reviewing exam questions answered outside of the session.

At this stage we will look through the mark scheme to ascertain what was done well and what could be improved.

After this, the session would continue with teaching course content,

going through terminology, processes etc. This will be an interactive system,

Students will be asked what they think before I address their question(s). This may be done as simple note-taking or

more interactive methods such as memory games.

Finally, a section would be dedicated to mark schemes, applying course content to exam questions. This includes simple question plans and student answers, followed by marking. This would be varied to keep students interested. Homework may be given, where a question is set for the student to complete on their own for next time. This would also allow me to measure student progress.
