About me

I'm currently studying Psychology and Linguistics at the University of Oxford and I would love to help tutor students in Maths and Biology or provide support for the TSA and MLAT. I took my A levels recently and so I understand how hard it can be to get through your GCSEs, A levels, and the university admissions process and I want to provide a helping hand to any students that are struggling with this process.

About my sessions

My main aim in lessons is simple - to help students reach their full potential by breaking down my explanations into simple, manageable chunks and helping to explain things in different ways so that my students can fully understand. Sometimes teachers in the classroom only provide one explanation and it can be helpful to view the problem from a different angle. I understand that Maths and Biology don't come easily to everyone and so I am willing to be patient with students who are genuinely struggling but I expect maximum effort from my students in return. People learn in a variety of different ways and so I am more than happy to be flexible with my approach and use the revision techniques which work best for the student.

To find the volume of a solid of revolution you need to use the formula that the volume is pi times the integral of y^2 with respect to x between the points given. First, you need to find y^2 which in this case is (1+1/x)^2 . Expanding the brackets gives (1 +2/x +1/x^2). Then you need to integrate each term with respect to x. This gives (x +2lnx - 1/x). Next you sub in the limits 3 and 9 to give (9 +2ln9 -1/9) - (3 + 2ln3 -1/3). Remember that 2ln9 can be rewritten as 4ln3 and then you can collect like terms. This leaves us with (56/9 + 2ln3). Finally it's important to remember to times the answer by pi as this is a step that people often forget.
