About me

Hello! I’m Louise.

I've been a tutor on MyTutor for three years now; when I began tutoring here, I had just finished my MA in 'Medieval and Renaissance Literary Studies', and now I've almost completed a PhD in English. In that time, I've become an expert in a particular area of English (Renaissance literature), and tutored numerous students through their early years of secondary education, GCSEs, and A-Levels.

About my sessions

Every session is tailored to each student's needs and interests. I take the time to get to know the students that I'm tutoring, and I plan lessons which address the areas they need support in through subjects which they have an interest in. I've taught grammar through lessons about football or aliens; it might sound unconventional, but I find it really helps the students to engage with the content of tutorials, and more crucially, retain it.

I give parents frequent updates on their child's progress. After every lesson, I message parents with a short summary of the topic(s) covered during tutorials, and how their child responded to them. I also encourage parents to keep me informed about any areas which they or the school feel that their child will benefit from covering.

I'm enthusiastic! Several of my students have come to me with a deep hatred of English, and have left me full of enjoyment for the subject. I maintain a positive, supportive, enthusiastic attitude throughout tutorials because I adore my subject, and I want my students to enjoy it too!

In this constructive lesson with Louise, I was very happy with her teaching style. I found her communication style clear and helpful. Her feedback on the essay I wrote was very detailed and useful; I could definitely apply everything I learnt in future essays. I will definitely book another session with her.
