Hello, my name is Awais!

I am currently a second-year medical student at the University of Birmingham after having achieved 9A*s and 1A in my GCSEs. Recently, I have supported two students with the 11 plus exams, who have successfully received admissions offers from grammar schools in the local area. Furthermore, I successfully interviewed and received offers at all 4 of the Medical Schools I applied to including Kings College London, St. George's, The University of Leicester and The University of Birmingham, having sat the UKCAT exam and excelled at MMI Interviews.

What's special about me I hear you ask?

Something that has been admired about me by both my peers and my teachers is my ability to deliver information at a suitable level in a way that is easy to understand. This has been exemplary through me assisting many of my peers to understand the key concepts from lectures as well as drawing upon difficult aspects of current research.

I also have a vast array of teaching experience applicable to students of all levels and backgrounds. This includes working as academic support staff as well as supporting the education of my younger cousins (A level and 11 plus). Using this, my own personal experience, and feedback from my own teachers and students, I better understand different studying and revision techniques that I am keen to share with others!

About my sessions

Through my sessions I will ensure to prepare the difficult concepts that both I myself struggled with at that age as well as opening the avenue for students to ask any questions regarding topics they are struggling with. One technique I myself still use at medical school, which is also something which I will also apply to my sessions is first establishing a basic understanding, which then can be built upon to draw on more difficult concepts. In my experience, students very often fail to fully understand one of the basic factors relating to a concept which hinders their ability to understand the harder aspects of that topic.

One key concept I have found to be vital in terms of the delivery of knowledge is by ensuring students fully understand the information and can manipulate their knowledge to apply it to different scenarios. Solely learning and regurgitating information is not beneficial to anybody and therefore throughout my sessions I will ensure that students can both remember and apply their knowledge in a way that is applicable.

I find it is more constructive and self-motivating if the student’s themselves set their own personal goals (with encouragement of course) as they know themselves best. Building on this, the centre of any education has to be the student and therefore I will base my sessions around the needs of each student, such that we focus on anything they struggle with.
