About me

My passion for English and World Literature was instilled in me from a very young age thanks to the teachers that motivated me to do well in the subject. I believe that patience, curiosity and a willingness to read will allow anyone to excel at the subject. My passion for English and World Literature was instilled in me from a very young age thanks to the teachers that motivated me to do well in the subject. I believe that patience, curiosity and a willingness to read will allow anyone to excel at the subject. I would love to share my knowledge and devotion to the subject that I developed over my undergraduate degree at Durham University by showing students how closely linked literature is with human emotion and expression, something that we all share! I want my classes to be as accesible as possible for the student because I consider it crucial to overcome the idea of literature as a daunting subject. I am also offering tutoring classes in the visual arts/ history of art, undergoing postgraduate studies in the History of Art at Oxford Univeristy. I stimulate students to develop their critical creativity in the visual arts and to broaden their understanding of historical periods that are brought about my historical change.

I am Australian but have lived in Spain for the past 12 years so I speak fluent Spanish. My ability to juggle between English and Spanish I think is crucial for someone tutoring a second language. Language can only be quickly improved by complete immersion in a language, so I will aim to carry out as much of the session in Spanish as possible, but will always be ready to communicate with the student in English whenever they feel daunted or lost.

About my sessions

I aim to structure all my lessons according to the requirements of the coursework and examinations that the student is undertaking or preparing for. I aim to structure all my lessons according to the requirements of the coursework and examinations that the student is undertaking or preparing for. Looking closely at past papers, I will attempt to practice a variety of challenging exercises with the student to encourage them to approach examination questions in a confident and flexible way. I aim to avoid rote learning by explaining the subject's content in a meaningful and accessible light so that the student can grapple with complex questions that might at first appear daunting and unfamiliar.

I think it important to study subjects both theoretically and practically but the lessons will be flexible according to the student's needs. I think encouragement and positivity is crucial for a student's progress so I want to make sure that the student's strengths are as strongly explored and built upon as their weaknesses in the subject so that the student can feel confident in the subject area.
