About me

Hi, I'm Amelia and I study Psychology at the University of Leeds! I'm in my third year doing a Paediatric Clinical and Health Psychology Placement.

To me, psychology is the study of people, both in terms of their brains and their behaviour. It is an area that's always growing and is relevant across many areas, such as mental health and social behaviour, so you're studying something that you can apply in the everyday world!

I've been tutoring on MyTutor since October 2018 and so far I have helped to increase my students grades by two. I previously tutored an AS-Level student before her exams as she struggled to really take in the content during lessons. I also have experience working with younger people across different areas, as I volunteer with a charity organisation that helps young children between the ages of 10-14 who look after members of their family who may have mental or physical difficulties, so although that isn't tutoring, it has really built on my communication skills.

About my sessions

1) Goal setting: What do you want to have a better understanding of by the end of the session? When we first meet, we can create a broad list of topics, and then break those down into each of our sessions so they can be tackled piece by piece. You don't have to understand everything by the end, but as long as you have a better understanding of even one area, that's important progress!

2) Establishing knowledge: What do you know already? If you have lots of excellent knowledge, we don't need to use our time on that topic, instead we need to target what you struggle with. I will still ask you questions on it though, just to make sure you've got a good understanding!

3) Flexibility: Whether it's the use of diagrams, practice questions, mind maps, or real life examples, finding the right technique is really important. If you've had a long day, I won't ask you to plan a 16 marker, but if you're doing really well, I will! These sessions are supposed to be motivating and enjoyable even though you are going over content, so each individual lesson will cater to you.
