About me

I am a student of Veterinary Science at University of Bristol, currently pursuing my dream career in the application of science to treat animals! I have been passionate about the sciences since an early age, but particularly in secondary school, where I was involved in building a 3D printer, setting up a Biomedical Society and competed in the National Chemistry Olympiad. Work-life balance has been incredibly important to my success so far and I am a keen athlete and volunteer at a local Brownie group. This motivation helped me develop efficient and effective study methods throughout my GSCE and A level years, which are still serving me well today. I strongly believe that finding and developing these individual techniques, is key to attainment at all levels.

About my sessions

I individually fit my lessons to the topics and learning methods of each tutee, focussing on their weaknesses, and helping them to develop a logical approach to not only their online lessons, but their school work and revision at home. Through preparing step by step questions, designed to aid learning, and summary work sheets to test how they have progressed, I encourage long term learning and most importantly understanding. I will be very happy to address queries from other work and find similar style questions to practice in the following lesson. From my own experience I understand the stresses of revision and examination and know that my previous tutoring experience has given my tutees essential confidence in their preparation for exams.

Her lovely and friendly personality just adds more value to her lessons. There will be no further reviews from us, as we know that Lauren will always be good to our son and to other students. She IS a five-star student tutor.

Questions Lauren has answered

Describe a complete combustion reaction, including the reactants and products?

When a fuel burns its hydrocarbons react with oxygen, complete combustion only happens if there is plenty of air to provide this oxygen. Hydrogen atoms bond to oxygen to make water vapour (H2O), Carbon atoms bond to oxygen to make carbon dioxide (CO2) and the maximum amount of energy is released (combustion is exothermic). When a fuel burns its hydrocarbons react with oxygen, complete combustion only happens if there is plenty of air to provide this oxygen. Describe the source, role and effects of adrenaline within the human endocrine system?

Adrenaline is produced by the adrenal glands and mainly targets the circulatory and respiratory systems, in order to prepare the body for 'fight or flight'. It increases heart rate, breathing rate and flow of blood to muscles, as well as the conversion of glycogen to glucose for use.Adrenaline is produced by the adrenal glands and mainly targets the circulatory and respiratory systems, in order to prepare the body for 'fight or flight'. In a circuit with a 12V battery, 20Ω resistor and 10Ω resistor, all in series, calculate the current that would flow?

This question can be split into two parts, the first is calculating overall resistance: in series the Rtotal = R1 + R2 so here Rtotal = 10Ω + 20Ω = 30Ω The second is to choose the relevant equation, potential difference = current × resistance (v = I x R), and rearrange it to calculate the current: v = I x R I = v / R I = 12 / 30 I = 0.4AThis question can be split into two parts, the first is calculating overall resistance: in series the Rtotal = R1 + R2 so here Rtotal = 10Ω + 20Ω = 30Ω The second is to choose the relevant equation, potential difference = current × resistance (v = I x R), and rearrange it to calculate the current: v = I x R I = v / R I = 12 / 30 I = 0.4A
