About me

Hi! I’m Georgina and I’m in my final year studying philosophy at the University of Cambridge. Philosophy is one of the broadest and most exciting subjects there is. Once upon a time, philosophy encompassed all of the natural and social sciences, but as each of these studies grew into a subject of its own, philosophy remained to rigorously analyse their methods and results. Philosophy asks big questions about big subjects such as ‘what is the mind?’ and ‘how can one be good?’ In the process it investigates mammoth concepts like consciousness and virtue. When we keep in touch with the enormity of these questions and concepts, it’s hard to ever get bored of philosophy! Even when philosophy can feel technical and confusing, it can be useful to try to keep in touch with these big, exciting questions. This is one of the many reasons why I love the subject, and I hope my enthusiasm can spread!

A little more about me: though I do, admittedly, spend a lot of time in the library, I do have other hobbies! I love photography and dance. My specialism nowadays is in political philosophy, so if that interests you then I'm sure we'd get along brilliantly! But if that's not your cup of tea, that's fine as I love the whole subject greatly and believe that it is a hugely powerful tool in the modern day.

About my sessions

In tutoring sessions with me, you can expect a relaxed learning environment in which I hope to make students feel comfortable to ask any and all questions they may have. In tutoring sessions with me, you can expect a relaxed learning environment in which I hope to make students feel comfortable to ask any and all questions they may have. This is because the key to success in philosophy is developing a deep understanding of arguments and points of view. I hope to deepen the understanding of students by answering and talking through their questions so that students feel that they can really understand where a philosopher or an argument is coming from. This will best help them to present arguments clearly and convincingly in their exams.

I will be well prepared for all of our sessions: I will be ready to take students through arguments in detail, answer their questions and emphasise crucial aspects of arguments/key definitions. In lessons we will focus on what the student feels needs the most attention. I can help students with all areas of their syllabus, or just those they find the most challenging.

In every session we have, it will be important to keep a focus on exam technique. This means discussing possible approaches to past paper questions and developing essay plans together. I will be happy to look at practice answers/essays and give my opinions on their strengths as well as areas for improvement. Students should feel welcome to send me practice answers in advance of our sessions which we can then discuss in detail in our lessons if the student would find this helpful.

Georgie is amazing with feedback, I sent a very rough personal statement at the start and with her help and support we have managed to create a great philosophy personal statement that I'm nearly ready to send. Thank you so much for everything Georgie!
