I did A levels in Maths, Physics, Biology and Chemistry, achieving A*A*A*A, and tutored younger students at my school throughout my time in sixth form. This was mostly GCSE students, but since starting with MyTutor I have tutored all levels from KS3 up to university level, across all exam boards. I have always enjoyed science as I love learning and understanding how things work and understanding the universe. I also enjoy problem solving which is why I was drawn to physics in particular. I thoroughly enjoyed tutoring, and to help students improve, I try to focus on building a solid understanding of the subject, rather than just memorising the content, and to apply this understanding to questions as much as possible.

About my sessions

To prepare for my lessons, I find out what my students' goals are, and which areas they would like more help in. I make simple presentations to teach the content, and provide example questions to practise application and exam technique. I also aim to leave plenty of time to discuss any uncertainties and answer questions, and set regular progress tests, which we can go through together afterwards. I make good use of the whiteboard, as I think diagrams and working through example questions...

I make good use of the whiteboard, as I think diagrams and working through example questions can be really helpful. I think that to encourage learning, it is important to engage with the student's goals and interests, and to tutor in a way that is specific to the individual, so let me know what is and isn't working for you and we can change things around! This may mean more time on some topics than others, more work on certain types of question, or different learning styles. It is also important to focus on understanding the concepts, which may sometimes involve going slightly deeper than is necessary for the syllabus in order to answer things the student is curious about, while still ensuring all the necessary content is covered.
