Degree: Modern Languages (German and Linguistics) (Bachelors) - Oxford, New College University
I am an undergraduate in German and Linguistics at New College, Oxford, in my final year of study. I spent the last academic year living in Vienna, where I taught English as a foreign language in a grammar school.
I'm here on mytutorweb because I really love my subject and I want to imbue you with that passion, whilst making sure you hit those grades.
You can be learning German at any level, and all I'll ask of you is that you want to stretch yourself and achieve the best you can.
Language learning presents lots of options, but many of these aren't possible in a classroom.
Having established your goals, we will employ the best methods to meet them. We can discuss this in our 'Meet-the-Tutor' session. It might mean me creating a worksheet for you, it might mean preparing a specific vocabulary bank, or it could be composing a text together.
We can also use the sessions to prepare directly for the oral exam.
The A-Level syllabus is relaxed about pronunciation, and this doesn't change at university. But your pronunciation will be the most important aspect of your language when you go abroad; speaking Standard German will ensure you are treated respectfully, and it is always highly rewarding to be believed to be a native.
Due to my training in phonetics, I've managed to master this and Germans can't believe I'm not German!
Anyone who wishes to go beyond the syllabus and master Standard German should know that it is not that difficult, and with a few sessions we will have the cornerstones in place for you to do this.
Thank you for reading this far, and I hope you think we would be well matched! I am very much looking forward to meeting you and discovering what we can achieve together :)
