About me

Hi there! My name is Parisha and I am a medical student at The University of Birmingham. Medicine is a tough course, but the challenge makes the reward that much more worth it. My desire to study my degree was the fact that I would be able to draw upon many subjects that have been taught to us through GSCE to A-level and expand my learning on them. This is made more worthwhile by being able to apply this knowledge to real life scenarios and help patients. Getting into medical school is hard itself, but that is why I would like to help you with it by supporting you through your A-Level Biology and Chemistry.

It is not all study though, as a black-belt in karate and an enthusiastic hockey player I strive to encourage healthy study habits. I have also learnt that learning is not always in the form of pen and paper. As a visual learner, I like to use pictures and diagrams. However, I would be able to tailor my teaching to what suits you. Studying is hard, but I know that long-term goals can be achieved through perseverance. I am a committed person so am willing to keep supporting your learning from start to finish.

I look forward to working with you.

About my sessions

The first thing I would do is determine what exactly the student's goals are, the areas of the subject that they wish to develop and how best they learn. Using this, I could help set up a timeframe for which to cover subject matter in with a greater emphasis on the subjects they find difficult. Also, by finding out how best they learn, I could incorporate this into teaching them. For example, for a visual learner, I could draw diagrams to help better explain key concepts. If they prefer learning through quizzes, I could give them more questions about certain topics as we go over them.

To measure progress, I will regularly ask questions and begin sessions by asking about subject matter covered in the previous video. I would also ask the student if they think they have any difficulties with any topics already covered to keep the ideas fresh in their minds and to address any concerns. I would also ask the student to monitor their own progress and encourage them to be independent in their learning: a key skill for university.

To further encourage learning, a tutor needs to be supportive even when difficulties are faced. They need to keep morale up. However, they also need to be honest to make goals realistic. I believe I have these qualities required to be a tutor.
