About me

Choosing maths wasn’t the dream I’ve always had since being a child, it was once suggested to me during 6th form and after some research I knew my mind was made up. Choosing maths wasn’t the dream I’ve always had since being a child, it was once suggested to me during 6th form and after some research I knew my mind was made up. Although I have done well in maths I’ve had to work very hard and be very determined, my motivation comes from the love and interest I have for the subject. This is something I want to convey through my teaching and convince students that you don’t have to be naturally clever to do the best in tests and A levels you just have to have a passion for the subject which inspires you to get your head down and work hard. With this positive attitude, improvements can be made easily which is how I wish to improve my student’s work with encouragement and the belief that they can get to the top with concentration and study. What drives me to work hard is the satisfaction of completing a question that you’ve struggled with or have had to go through a long process to get the answer. To sum up, I love problem solving and getting a deeper understanding for things that I’m interested in. To me there is a beauty in maths that stems from the fact that everything fits together so perfectly and that complicated things can be simplified with general formulas that make complex theorems or ideas clear or at least easier to understand.

About my sessions

Stetting weekly or monthly targets is something that I find important in monitoring and viewing progress, it can also give students confidence when they achieve their goals and they can see where all their hard work has gone. This method is something I’ve used when training in the gym to improve my fitness, it has been very successful in motivating me and encouraging myself to continue to work hard and I hope that I can transfer this idea to my teaching. For me, maths is something that becomes clear when broken down into smaller simple steps which makes it easier to understand. This is how I would help my students comprehend new concepts that they come across and how to approach new questions that they are unfamiliar with. I’ve had to learn to make the most of valuable time with a supervisor, preparing exactly what I want to ask for specific pieces of work is the best way to do this so for any online lessons I give I would ask the student what they wanted to go over next at the end of each lesson and spend time preparing clear step by step help for solutions they are struggling with. Lessons would start with a discussion about what the student wants to go over followed by setting some aims for the lesson. I would then address the main topic of the lesson and further educate the student and discuss what they are finding difficult. To end, we would refresh key points from the session including the aims we set at the start and ensuring they have been covered.
