About me

Hi! I'm Eleanor, and I'm a second year cheerleader who studies English at Durham. I've always loved English, but during my A Levels I really enjoyed going beyond the text; I could learn about history, philosophy and politics all through one subject, and I still enjoy that today. Hi! I'm Eleanor, and I'm a second year cheerleader who studies English at Durham. I've always loved English, but during my A Levels I really enjoyed going beyond the text; I could learn about history, philosophy and politics all through one subject, and I still enjoy that today. I always did quite well in English, but I really struggled with a lot of my other subjects, and I know how stressful it can be sitting exams when you don't feel confident. Having been tutored a lot myself in the past, and tutored extensively throughout uni, I know how much a productive, engaging and cooperative session can be in helping both your grades and your confidence! Having that boost really helped me in my A Levels, and still positively affects how I revise and study at uni today.

At uni, we focus on discussion in our classes, and that's what I enjoy bringing to our sessions. Fostering a two-way system is vital for helping students realise their own capabilities, with me there to push them the extra bit required to achieve the grades they want. My sessions are designed to be taken at your pace, focusing on what you need to succeed!

About my sessions

The best way to learn is always a cooperative approach, so I will always promise to be familiar with your texts, exams and your personal goals. The purpose of the lessons is to help you, so I always try to spend at least fifteen minutes of the introductory session understanding my student's learning style, their goals, how they are best productive and what they feel they should focus on. I try and set a few flexible goals for each session about what we hope to achieve and revisit these at the end to track what we have achieved. My sessions focus on guided discussion which enable the student to develop their own ideas on the texts. These opinions help build original and thoughtful essays and develop a student’s confidence in their own knowledge and understanding.

I link every session to past exam papers, or sample questions, allowing exam or coursework situations

to guide the content of the lesson and provide a focus. To measure progress, I will often ask students to spend fifteen minutes before the next session to write down these ideas into sample paragraphs. I use these to measure their progress, and equally evaluate the crucial areas of their writing style and structure.

Confidence is a key area in any subject, as is enjoying a text. No matter how much you might hate Hamlet, or feel nervous for upcoming exams, I will always try and foster a positive and reinforcing learning environment that focuses on the individual.
