About me

Hey there, so I'm Pete and I'm currently studying Automotive Engineering at Warwick Uni. I like it because it combines Maths and Physics in a practical way. If you’ve ever thought “why am I even doing algebra (or other topics) because it has no relevance in real life”, then engineering does the application of Maths. But I’m not here to ‘sell’ engineering to you, but maybe give Maths some more meaning. As I’m a normal human, I don’t particularly enjoy exams, probably like you, but as I...

As I’m a normal human, I don’t particularly enjoy exams, probably like you, but as I’ve found out from experience, going into an exam confident about what you know beats going into an exam in which you have no idea what’s going on! Hopefully, we can achieve the former and not the latter! Apart from just doing my course at Uni, I also do various societies, such as Climbing, Christian Union & 5 a side football. I also play multiple instruments, like Electric/Acoustic guitar and Trumpet, so I like to get involved throughout Uni and don’t just lock myself in my room the whole time. At school, it was the worst when I got bored, so hopefully if I can help you to get on with maths, then you can even, dare I say it, enjoy it! At the same time, I don’t want anyone to be overworking as it’s so important to have a good work/life balance, but we can look at that one as a team.

About my sessions

So, going into more of the tutoring side of things, I will try to learn the course inside out (to the best of my ability). This will help massively as we can take time going through each section, or equally, hop around to work on particularly difficult bits. Throughout the lesson, there will be examples in order to supplement what we are learning. The exams usually have similar format questions so by doing examples, we can imitate what the actual exam questions might be and then do different...

So, going into more of the tutoring side of things, I will try to learn the course inside out (to the best of my ability). This will help massively as we can take time going through each section, or equally, hop around to work on particularly difficult bits. Throughout the lesson, there will be examples in order to supplement what we are learning. The exams usually have similar format questions so by doing examples, we can imitate what the actual exam questions might be and then do different difficulties for each example until that part is known inside out! I also understand that everyone learns slightly differently from each other, so the plan is, if one way of doing a problem doesn’t seem to be understood, that is completely normal, and we will look at another way. I’m very happy to adapt the way we approach things based on how someone learns. As the exams start coming up closer, we will look at past papers more and more. What worked well for me is I’d do a past paper each day or something like that once our revision period started and I ended up completing a lot of them over time. I think, although it’s a little more dull, it’s important to look at what went well/wrong in the paper and to start to polish those parts. Then, you can go into the exam feeling confident in what kind of things are going to come up and can ace it.
