About me

I have a First Class Bachelor’s Degree in English from Queen's University Belfast and am returning to study a Masters in Literary Studies because I love studying and understanding literature.

I have also successfully completed eleven GCSEs and 3 A-Levels and so have a lot of experience revising for exams. Additionally, in order to obtain a place at university I crafted a personal statement and so could also assist in creating

and/or proof-reading these documents.

I have been involved in lots of different programmes at university including Student Enterprise and Homework Clubs. During Homework Clubs I tutored pupils on a one to one basis for the AQE entrance exam. Furthermore, during my final year of school I tutored a GCSE English pupil. Their grade raised from a B to an A after 6 months of tutoring.

I will help my students improve by having a discussion about what the enjoy, what they struggle with and the way in which they like to learn. By focussing on these three aspects, a student’s confidence can be boosted. This is because I can create an overall balance by reinforcing the positive areas, improving the areas which are lacking and understand how to get the best out of a student when it comes to revising for exams.

About my sessions

I am a firm believer that every student has different needs. There may be issues with overall understanding of literary techniques, difficulty when structuring essays or struggles with exam revision.

Therefore, the way in which I structure my sessions will be tailored to the needs of each individual student. Take for example, examination preparation which requires lots of practice to perfect. At the end of a lesson I will set a past paper and

At the end of a lesson I will set a past paper and

ask for it to be completed before the next session. Then we can read over it and time for questions which I will answer. Then I will discuss the good points and the points that can be improved within the essay and repeat the process. In terms of revision sessions, my main goal will be to determine and advise them on the best way to learn for them.

To plan my lessons I will review the literature and the exam questions making notes. I also hope to make my lessons fun and interactive using the online teaching space and plenty of anecdotes.

I think that the most important way of assessing the progress of any student is in their confidence as well as the statistical improvement of results. I hope to encourage my students by praising them for small improvements in performance. I also feel that in order to encourage learning it is important to push them to research, read and write outside of our lesson time in order to put them ahead of the competition.
