About me

Hello! I'm Usama and am a fourth year Medical Student at Imperial College London. Studying Medicine is a privilege, where we see people at their most vulnerable and learn how best to improve their quality of life. Learning the science behind what we see makes this course all the more satisfying!

With about 60% of applicants failing to receive a single offer for Medical School, the stress of applying is huge, and a feeling which I remember well. I still remember the feeling of accomplishment when I secured a place, however. To help people achieve the same feeling - be it when applying to Medical School or when receiving their GCSE/A-Level Results - would be a privilege.

I have experience in teaching - both at Medical School where I've given tutorials to younger years and outside of Medical School, where I taught Maths to students. Not only this, but I have years of experience of advising Medical Applicants online so know the facts from the fiction in regards to Medical School applications. I have also sat on the interview panel for Imperial, so have seen the 'other side' of the application process.

If you're interested in GCSE/A-Level Biology/Maths tutoring, please get in touch! I can also help out with Medical School applications, read through Personal Statements and give mock interviews - as I've said, I've been on the interview panel for Imperial so am in a good position to advise. Look forward to hearing from you!

About my sessions

I like to start off by establishing exactly what the student wants out of the sessions. From there, I establish exactly how much the student knows and what we need to cover.

Every student knows best what their own strengths and weaknesses are and what topics they feel they need to go over. Therefore, my lessons will be based on what the student wants to go over, as well as weaknesses identified through teaching. To achieve the best possible results, it would be best to be told in advance the topics that want to be covered, and I can prepare the lesson accordingly, tailoring it to exactly the needs of each individual.

Usama is very articulate and explains complex concepts in detail in a clear and memorable manner. He's been really helpful in developing my exam technique, and has shown me how to approach exam style questions, whilst covering the material needed to do so. Thank you!

For A-Level Maths and Biology - Usama has been extremely helpful in both teaching and explaining topics. He goes over and beyond to ensure the lesson time is spent efficiently, making sure the subject is fully understood. He always comes fully prepared for the lesson and is punctual. He is a very approachable tutor who makes the learning enjoyable and encourages me to ask questions. I would highly recommend him.

Questions Usama has answered

Describe and explain how blood glucose levels are controlled following a meal.

Following a meal, the levels of glucose in the blood will increase. This increase in the level of glucose needs to be controlled, otherwise the levels of glucose will become too high and someone could end up hyperglycaemic. The organ that helps control blood glucose is the pancreas, which releases insulin in response to higher levels of glucose. Insulin causes glucose to move from the blood into the liver and other cells, converting it to glycogen. This means that the levels of glucose in the blood decrease back to normal levels.Following a meal, the levels of glucose in the blood will increase.
