About me

I am a recent graduate of the University of Cambridge, with a 1st class degree in Italian and French.

Last year I completed a year abroad in Italy, teaching English to Italian students between the ages of 14 and 19. I loved helping others to learn a language, providing them with a different way of experiencing a new culture and with skills to establish relationships with native speakers. I also have experience teaching children's group lessons and one-to-one adult sessions, so I can tailor my teaching style to any situation.

At school I studied the International Baccalaureate, thoroughly enjoying studying six different subjects and finding a personalised way to approach revision, studying and organisation across the board in Maths, Science, English and Humanities. I take a logical approach to both studying and teaching, using personal experience and handy 'tips and tricks' to help me and my students remember challenging topics!

I began studying Italian when I joined university, so I am very aware of the challenges posed when facing a new subject, but with hard work and a focused approach to learning, anything is possible. When faced with something difficult, I will help a student break down the topic into more manageable chunks so that little by little, it all becomes achievable.

About my sessions

I ask students to let me know which areas they would like to focus on, and tell me about any specific questions they have found challenging - this way I can target certain areas of each subject to study in more detail, where we can work through questions together at the student's pace. Depending on whether a student is preparing specifically for an exam, or just for general study, I will prepare a variety of exercises, examples and explanations for the topic in hand.

Within my personal studies I like to set a weekly goal, even something small such as learning 10 new verbs or doing 5 practice questions, so that I can see regular and continual improvement. I encourage my students to do the same as it is excellent positive reinforcement and will allow us to adjust and adapt study plans to suit different learning speeds.

I will always allow time within lessons for any additional questions or queries that may have arisen during or between lessons: most importantly, lesson content will be student driven to ensure that focus and interest is maintained.
