About me

"I've learnt more in the last 2 lessons than I've learnt in the last 3 years at school," one student told me. This really epitomises my teaching style: thorough and efficient, but always engaging and varied. "I've learnt more in the last 2 lessons than I've learnt in the last 3 years at school," one student told me. This really epitomises my teaching style: thorough and efficient, but always engaging and varied. I push my students and my lessons are challenging, but I also try to establish an equal, companionable relationship with my tutees, and the result is that they look forward to my classes. I have nearly 250 hours of tutoring experience, having taught via another platform since March last year. Writing is and always has been my passion, and what to study at university was a narrow toss-up between History and English. Although I love literature and poetry, I chose History because I like the way it makes you think. History in itself fascinating, and we can learn a lot from our predecessors; but it also teaches us how to think critically and construct sound arguments. I have an A Level in Spanish, and then I further developed my knowledge, confidence and fluency living and working in Madrid for two summers. I am good at recognising my students' potential. I often introduce lesson materials which are not on the syllabus but which will stimulate you, enable you to think independently and then achieve the highest grades. I find tutoring incredibly rewarding; it gives me so much joy to hear a tutee tell me they've moved up a grade, and for this reason, I am genuinely dedicated and passionate.

About my sessions

My teaching style aims to strike a balance between content and exam technique. I keep my students engaged while running through content by asking them lots of questions (especially 'What do you think of...?') and I encourage them to do the same. I introduce lesson materials which are beyond the syllabus, but which are tailored to make you think in new ways. For example, I might ask a GCSE English student to read an excerpt from a controversial academic essay, and then I'll ask the...

For example, I might ask a GCSE English student to read an excerpt from a controversial academic essay, and then I'll ask them what they understand from it, and what they think of the interpretation.

My lessons often begin with a debate or a discussion to get you engaged and stimulated in the subject material. I value every contribution, and I often learn something new myself from listening to a student's interpretation. For History and English, being able to plan essays speedily and grasp the essence of a debate is key, so I focus a lot on that. Sometimes, the whole lesson will be based around one essay question; we will start by debating the issues surrounding the question, then we will think about some different interpretations, then planning, and finally I will ask you to write me a paragraph. I slowly build up to the point where I can set the student a timed paper.
