About me

My name is Georgina Corre. I'm 18 years old, studying International Business at the University of Leeds. Last year I completed three alevels in Psychology, Business and Economics, so I know what it feels like to be preparing for exams. I love all three of the subjects I took and I continue to study them as part of my degree. I myself struggled particularly with Economics, and had tutoring. I found that it helped me when my tutor listened and adapted his explainations to what I understand, I aim to do this with you. My aim is to go into Human Resources, as I have a strong interest in people and how we think thus the psychology and interest in Business itself. Additionally I love learning about the economy as this has relevance to everyday life, although I have found it tricky I have found methods to simply the basics from which you can build on any level of knowledge. As i have an interest in all these subjects, if I don't know an answer you have I will research it and come to an understanding myself in order to help you.

About my sessions

I intend to adapt my sessions to each individual student, exam board and level of knowledge. I will help with making a revision plan by highlighting areas of difficulty. Progress will be measured through keeping a log of subjects studied and completing practice exam questions.

Questions Georgina has answered

Evaluate one or more ways in which behaviourists treat phobias

The Behaviourist approach is concerned with observable stimulus-response behaviors, and states all behaviors are learned through interaction with the environment. One way in which Behaviourists treat Phobias such as a spider phobia is Systematic desensitisation. This is based on classical conditioning, the therapist will use counterconditioning to replace the fear and anxiety associated with a spider by relaxation. In the first therapy session the patient and therapist will develop an anxiety hierarchy, this will start with a low anxiety trigger such as looking at a picture of a spider to holding a spider (a high anxiety trigger). The therapist will then train the patient how to relax, in preparation for working though the hierarchy. This comes from the theory of reciprocal inhibition, which is that fear and relaxation cannot coexist, and thus through relaxing the fear should become extinct. This approach is effective for several phobias, for example social anxiety. This strength of this approach is that it can be self administered. A patient can teach themselves breathing techniques in order to relax and expose themselves to the feared stimulus, although this may not work for everyone it extends the application of this treatment. Additionally Systematic Desensitisation has a strength over flooding (when a patient is exposed to the feared stimulus immediately and until fear becomes extinct) as flooding can be traumatic and is unlikley to be used to certain groups such as children, which limits its application.
