About me

Hi! I'm Tim, a second year student studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford. Politics and Economics are particularly fascinating in current times, and the degree provides a great variety of skills I use in tutoring. Politics and Economics are particularly fascinating in current times, and the degree provides a great variety of skills I use in tutoring. I love tutoring as I find it really worthwhile and rewarding, not only to see a student progress and gain confidence in their subject, but also to encourage an academic interest in their subject. I have learnt a lot from past tutoring experience, which helps me identify key areas to work on, and also how to explain subjects clearly using a variety of different methods.

I am very familiar with tutoring, having tutored maths in my local area for two years in addition to teaching classes of 11 plus maths with class sizes surpassing 30. I have gained further experience as a private trumpet tutor to a wide range of ages and abilities for 3 years. I make sure that students gain an understanding and interest for the subject, while keeping my sessions exam focused.

About my sessions

The content of my sessions are primarily led by the pupil; I am flexible to cover any particular demands or topics the student wishes to work on. I will first ask a few questions to gauge their pre-existing knowledge, then explain the topic clearly before examining exam questions both aided and then unaided. This allows for a comprehensive study of everything a pupil will need for the exam they are preparing for.

I am patient but will also push encourage and challenge pupil...

I am patient but will also push encourage and challenge pupils to reach their potential. I can send homework and give parents written feedback for sessions with me, so they can see how we are progressing. This homework will tend to be past exam questions, either on topics we have covered to consolidate their learning, or on uncovered topics to help me identify areas for improvement.

My daughter Sarah has had several lessons with Tim. Sarah has benefitted from these lessons and is doing very well. Her understanding of maths has vastly improved as has her confidence and this is due to Tim’s method of teaching. I have no hesitation in recommending him.
