Hello, my name is Doroti and I am currently a second-year medical student at UCL.

I have always enjoyed explaining concepts to people as well as solving problems - one of the many reasons why I love Science and Maths and why I chose to study Medicine. During my time at school, many of my friends and classmates came to me when they needed help in understanding certain biological processes, chemistry mechanisms, maths problems and so on. My tutoring experience began when I joined the Chemistry mentoring program at my sixth form in Year 12, where I tutored younger students in Chemistry and helped them get a better understanding in the subject. I also have a younger brother who I helped in preparing for his 11+ exams.

At the time of completing my A levels, I was doing my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, as well as volunteering at a hospital every week, therefore I understand the pressure of managing your time by balancing studies and extra curricular activities, especially during exam season.

As I have just finished my A levels, I am very familiar with the content and can pass on different exam techniques which helped me to obtain my top grades: 9 A* and 2 A grades at GCSE as well as A*A*A at A-level in Biology, Chemistry and Maths respectively. I also did an EPQ on Lyme Disease for which I got an A*. I would love to help you in achieving your desired grades by increasing your confidence and understanding in your subjects!

About my sessions

I like to start off my lessons by establishing what my tutee's strengths and weaknesses are in the certain topic we are covering. This helps me to adapt my teaching style to each of my students so they are being taught in a way that is most convenient and effective for them. We can then work on trying to develop the areas you are struggling in by initially discussing the theory behind the topic, then moving on to solving questions. In order to solve a problem, I like to ask questions from my tutees, rather than spoon-feeding the answers to them, as this will enable them to think deeply into the question and allows them to have a sense of achievement that they have managed to solve a problem themselves. My sessions would be informal, so I encourage you to ask as many questions as possible which would enrich your knowledge.

Through preparing myself for medical school and volunteering, I have been able to develop key skills, such as patience and empathy, which will allow me to work at a pace the is best for my tutee as well as identify and work on their weaknesses to help them in making as much progress as possible in their subject.

Doroti explains concepts very clearly, first we learnt the theories and concepts and then we would practise some questions related to the chapter. She makes thing very easy to understand and is very efficient.

It was really good. Doroti helped cover the sine and cosine rule and I had never done it before and now find it really easy. :))
