About me

Having always been interested in science and technology, I started learning seriously about computers at 10 years old, and have since worked on a variety of personal, commercial and academic projects. Being the only student in my year to take A-level Computing, I found the personal, discussion based approach my teacher took to be far more effective than normal classroom learning. This fostered my passion for the subject, and has shaped my approach to teaching.

Being the only student in my year to take A-level Computing, I found the personal, discussion based approach my teacher took to be far more effective than normal classroom learning. This fostered my passion for the subject, and has shaped my approach to teaching.

Throughout my time at the university, I have been involved in various teaching programs. I love my subject, not just the technical aspects but also the problem solving and critical thinking skills that it involves. Although CS is my academic field, I have a huge passion for Maths and Physics. I started learning deeper concepts in Maths when studying for the 11+ exam, and later on participating in different Maths Olympiads, scoring highly during my time at school. I was also part of the STEM team there, which involved building an underwater ROV, a GPS tracked ocean buoy and motion sensing cameras.

Outside of academics, I enjoy the outdoors and fitness related activities. I am involved with the expedition society and have practiced martial arts for over 12 years. I love to read, especially fiction, and enjoy debating and discussing different topics.

About my sessions

Learning is my passion, and my goal is to inspire that same love in my students. I have been tutoring for over 10 years, starting with 11+ then later moving to teaching GCSE Maths. I continued teaching during A-levels, including A-level Maths, and tutored key subjects at GCSE level, including Maths, Triple Science, Geography and Business. At university I have been a Teaching Assistant (TA) during the last 3 years, teaching several units and I was one of the most oversubscribed TAs.

I find that building a strong rapport helps students be more confident in asking questions and expressing their doubts and mistake. My approach is to help students develop a deep understanding of their subject, helping them link together different topics for a complete picture; learning the why behind the what helps them want to discover more and improves their approach to problems. This understanding naturally manifests itself in improved exam performance.

I like to start tutoring by understand a student's initial understanding of a topic, and building on from there. First we would set up learning goals, then work towards understanding different topics, utilizing exam questions for practice, evaluating progress regularly. I plan lessons to be 1 hour long, with 55 mins of teaching and 5 mins to evaluate their learning and round things off. I am very flexible with timings, and always happy to accommodate to my students' needs.
