About me

I’m studying a Masters in Health Psychology - a subject that I only became aware of at undergraduate level. Essentially it is a topic that covers aspects of both psychology and medicine to ensure patients are heard and given the most holistic and beneficial treatment. Of course it is also here to make sure healthy people stay healthy! It is a subject that completely stole my heart and I am incredibly excited to start this journey. Essentially it is a topic that covers aspects of both psychology and medicine to ensure patients are heard and given the most holistic and beneficial treatment. Of course it is also here to make sure healthy people stay healthy! It is a subject that completely stole my heart and I am incredibly excited to start this journey. I hope that I am able to give you the confidence you need so that you can find something that gives you the same feeling.

Exams were something I began to hit my stride with once I could deeply understand the material. I found that if I could look at information from different angles and it still revealed a logical answer, that I would be fine - even if I did feel like an anxious wreck. I also had to remember that nerves can be good - it means you care.

Applying to university was nerve-wrecking but as long as you put your best foot forward, you will find the right place for you. Make sure your enthusiasm and work ethic is evident and that is most of the battle fought.

I enjoy getting involved with as many things as I can in order to enjoy the experience of a university. I am currently trying out judo, reeling and drama alongside my old faithfuls of riding horses and playing tennis.

About my sessions

Structure wise I am able to adapt to what suits the student best. My main focus is a deep understanding that often starts with taking a breath and slowly reading what is being asked of you. I am flexible between verbal and visual stimuli but I have found that, generally, verbal is effective as it can simulate a relaxed conversation.

Teaching can be the best method of learning so if a student can verbally ‘teach’ me what we have discussed by making it their own, I know that they have a deeper understanding. I found that, when I was at school and even now, verbally explaining something really helped me conceptualise it and make it more memorable.

I also employ the use of ‘trigger points’. For example, if names and dates are required I use the name as memory trigger for what they have done in order to shorten my notes. This is a method of mine that I use for exams and it may not be for everyone. Simultaneously, I’m more than happy to help if you do want to try it out!

In order to make this more enjoyable for students I like to bring in fun comparisons and examples so that the work being done isn’t so distant. In my experience, as soon as you are able to have a bit of fun with something, it sticks. With every session I may do a few recap questions, if necessary, to ensure progression. If something has not been fully grasped, I will attempt a different strategy to make sure we get the best results we can.
