Hi! I'm a Chemistry student in St Andrews and I really love my subject, because it describes almost every area of everyday life and gives me that 'aha!' feeling when I get to undersatand something new :) I did the IB myself, but I'm also familiar with GCSE and A levels specifications and will be happy to help you with these. I have strong background in Physics and Maths as well, so I tutor them at GCSE level.

My goal is to go over a topic you don't understand step by step to make sure you do understand it and not just memorise things you don't really get. I always have some problems for you to solve (ideally from past papers) so that you can immediatly see what kind of questions about that particular topic you can expect. I'll also be really happy to see you regularly and help you achieve your dream grade. I put a great emphasis on past papers, as knowing the structure and exact requirements of your exam is a big part of your grade.
Ideally I would like to know in advance what topic or topics you want to cover (or if you need full exam preparation, which topics do think are the most difficult for you).

I'm not a fan of just telling you everything about a topic, so I will ask you some of questions about it (and so will you), trying to direct you towards the right answers. I think this 'interactive' approach is really stimulating and helps you deeply understand what you're studying. I will also have some exam questions to go through together and will want to see you solving similar problems during our session. As practice is key, I will give you a tiny homework and I'm open to discuss any problems you encounter while doing it. After several sessions I tend to briefly come back to previously studied topics. Seeing the way you attempt solving problems connected to these topics lets me see how much you remember.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the MyTutor team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 7 becomes a tutor on our site.
