About me

Hello! I am a recent Masters graduate from Lancaster University. What makes me so interested in science is how relevant and exciting it is, right now the cells in your body are dividing, growing, recognising nasty bugs and getting rid of them, fixing that wee paper cut on your finger and so many other amazing things! When I was in school I was tutored through my GCSE chemistry and A-Level maths, both subjects I didn’t particularly enjoy but needed to do. My tutor was not only able to help me...

My tutor was not only able to help me understand them but he was able to make them fun again! That is definitely my aim whilst tutoring because if you enjoy something, it doesn’t feel like learning, and genuine interest is key to doing well.

Having studied biology to a much higher level now, I am confident with the content and feel that I am capable of finding other ways to explain things that will hopefully help, as well as being able to facilitate a deeper understanding of concepts rather than the students having to rote learn everything.

Outside of studies I am a very keen hockey player and Irish dancer, both providing a social and family-like community that I couldn’t be without, especially when I first moved to England for university (I am Northern Irish by the way).

About my sessions

Every session will be tailed to the students’ needs. When looking at the syllabus it can seem daunting and overwhelming, so my plan would be to break up the content into smaller and more manageable sections and focusing in on any weaknesses found, as well as commending any strengths.

Every session will be tailed to the students’ needs. When looking at the syllabus it can seem daunting and overwhelming, so my plan would be to break up the content into smaller and more manageable sections and focusing in on any weaknesses found, as well as commending any strengths.

Before I start my paid sessions I plan to have an unpaid session with each student to get to know them and try to understand what they are struggling with and what their strengths are. During the pad sessions we would start going through the topics, at the end I will do a short question answer, and set a couple of past paper questions on what we covered which will be a short recap at the start of the next session. This ensures understanding and makes sure everything is not just forgotten as soon as the student logs out!.

What helped me when I was sitting exams was writing my own notes, making them different to how our textbooks and drawing diagrams. After making my notes, I used to read them two or three times a day to recap and by exam time it is ingrained in your memory. The only other thing I can say is past papers, past papers, past papers! They are the only way to really get to know the type of questions asked and how to really nail down that exam technique. There is no point in knowing the whole specification if you don't know how to get the marks during the exam!

Sarah is friendly and confident tutor, She is really hardworking and accurate, i am very satisfied with her first lesson in Immunology, she prepared her self for the lesson and she was always in touch with me to give me the chance to ask any questions before the season. She also provided me with the right notes and references. Highly recommended in any subjects in biology science. Thank you very much Sarah.
