About me

Hi, my name is Chris and I am an undergraduate at the University of Leeds, studying Mathematics and Economics. I achieved straight A*s in my A Levels (Maths, Economics and Biology) and I have a passion for both learning about and teaching these subjects. What makes me unique is that maths didn't come easy to me when I was younger, but by working closely with teachers I quickly improved to the point where maths is now the main focus of my degree! What makes me unique is that maths didn't come easy to me when I was younger, but by working closely with teachers I quickly improved to the point where maths is now the main focus of my degree! As such, I know the careful attention that is needed in order to help students progress, and I have first hand experience with nuanced teaching methods that really help students grasp fundamental concepts which may not otherwise have been understood.

About my sessions

The move towards both the new linear A Levels (which I sat) and the more content heavy GCSEs involved a shift of focus from content learning towards increased depth of understanding, and I believe it is therefore paramount that fundamental concepts are understood, so that students are set up for success. When I first speak to a student I ask them to order the topics of the specification in terms of how confident they feel, so that I can make a specific plan ensuring focus is put in the right...

The move towards both the new linear A Levels (which I sat) and the more content heavy GCSEs involved a shift of focus from content learning towards increased depth of understanding, and I believe it is therefore paramount that fundamental concepts are understood, so that students are set up for success. When I first speak to a student I ask them to order the topics of the specification in terms of how confident they feel, so that I can make a specific plan ensuring focus is put in the right places. Equally, I can recognise when my students are familiar with specific content, ensuring no time is wasted. My informal teaching approach creates an environment in which students feel comfortable enough to ask questions about things which may not have come easily to them previously, and from then on it is a case of working through the plan to ensure everything is covered thoroughly. The ultimate aim for most students is to achieve an excellent exam grade, and working through exam questions together once the content has been covered and thoroughly understood is a good strategy to ensure this.
