Hello my name is George!

I am currently a student in Theoretical Physics at the University of Sheffield. I chose this course as I am fascinated by physics in general and the theoretical branch allows me to take more challenging and interesting modules throughout my course in place of lab work. I have studied Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths all to A2 level and with an A* in each. The two science subjects were part of the new specification of A levels so I have experience with the challenging new lateral thinking questions present in both GCSE and A level.

I would describe myself as a very curious person. I have a strong desire to understand the world around me which has driven me into science and mathematics. Throughout school I have done well academically and enjoyed discussing my subjects with other students and with teachers.

Outside of academia I am a qualified scuba diver and have enjoyed seeing areas of the world few people are lucky enough to witness. It was both fun and interesting to learn the concepts required to become a diver and unlike anything else I've ever done.

About my sessions

In each session I will aim to cover a set topic agreed before hand with the student, however I will adapt this during the session to cover any gaps in knowledge we come across. I would describe my tutoring style as clear, concise and engaging, covering what is needed to gain a deeper understanding of the topic and allowing the student to approach problems in a novel and intuitive way.

For maths and further maths I believe problem solving is the best way to learn by far. Hence I will tackle topics by first going through a question I have chosen that covers all areas of the topic step by step, followed by either encouraging the student to talk me through a similar problem or by going through questions that have arisen in our session or at school.

For science based subjects I believe having an intuitive understanding of the topic is essential before tackling problems. I will examine the student's specific course specification on the topic before the session to understand which specific concepts need to be understood. During the session I will then explain and discuss these concepts with the student, aiming to build a deeper understanding than that achieved at school. I will conclude the session by asking the student some questions about the topic and encouraging them to explain their thought process verbally to identify areas to review.

"very easy to understand, learnt a lot" -That was my daughter's (currently in yr13) review after her first A level Maths lesson with George. My daughter in yr11 was also very happy and learnt a lot in her Physics lesson with George.

I would like to thank George for his immense help in tutoring my son in Year 13 which enabled my son to achieve his predicted grade and join his dream university! George was always helpful with great knowledge of the new physics curriculum in detail. My son was always happy with his lessons and had great opportunity to enjoy all his lessons. I can’t thank George enough and wish him best wishes in all his coming steps. Thank you George. Dina
