Hi, I am Marina!

I was born in Italy, in a small town in Tuscany. However do to my dads job I've lived in Geneva, Padova and Milan. I started going to an international nursery at the age of two and half and since then I have always been in english teaching schools. I have always loved science as a kid. Once in high school I loved going to chemistry, biology and environmental class. However, my greatest love by far is the ocean. Hence why I am a MSci Marine Biology undergraduate at the University of Southampton. I am a passionate learner...one might even call me a nerd. I love learning new things and going off into researching obscure facts and complicated questions. The more complicated and tricky the question the more fun I have solving it. If I don't already know the answer or how to find it, I will try my hardest to figure it out. I will help my students improve by finding easy and memorable ways for them to remember facts and equations, while also learning simple ways to solve complicated questions. As I believe that nearly all, if not all complicated questions can be broken down into solvable parts that then neatly fit together to give you a greater picture.

Based on the chosen subject I would have have them catch me up on what they had studied/learnt so far in that particular subject. While making sure that they highlight what they understood and more importantly what they did not feel super confident in or had not understood. We would then go over that particular aspect of the subject with practice questions and explanations. Something that I find super important to stress is if they don't understand something after I've taught it or their teacher has taught it to them, I think it is very important to change the way it is being taught as not all of us learn the same way. To conclude the lesson I would see if they have any questions about their homework that we can work through together or if they would like any added practice questions to work through until our next meeting.

I will measure progress by the students confidence and ability in tackling a range of problems. I think enthusiasm and passion are the most important aspects to encourage learning. As I find that if the person teaching you is passionate and

enthusiastic about their material, even if it isn't your favourite subject you still want to show up and try your hardest to do your best. I also find it important to not tell kids they are wrong and move on but to help them understand were they went wrong and how to improve so that they don't make the same mistake next time.

Marina helped to prepare me for my IB SL Environmental Systems and Societies (E.S.S.) exams, in which I scored a strong Level 7/7. Her advice and guidance helped to sharpen my exam technique and further develop my understanding of the course content. This ensured that I felt confident and well-prepared for the examinations. Lessons with Marina were always relevant and useful, and I found that Marina always had material prepared. Marina's approach to teaching was enjoyable and encouraging, and she provided me with insightful and nuanced support. I believe that the skills which I have acquired during our sessions were not only useful in preparing me for my IB SL E.S.S. exams, but that they will also prove to be invaluable at university. I would absolutely recommend Marina to anyone seeking guidance with IB E.S.S., as her professional approach and assistance enabled me to feel confident as I approached my exams.
