About me

I am a second year medical student at the University of Leeds. Although I have always had a interest in science, through my course I have developed this, particularly for biology and chemistry, this makes me passionate about passing this on to other people and tutoring others is a perfect way to do this. I have good communication skills making me good at explaining things to someone- this helps me to teach.

I studied chemistry, biology and geography at A-level achieving all A. I also studied maths at AS level obtaining a B. For GCSE I achieved 8A* in sciences, maths, spanish, geography and history and As in english. Aswell as school exams I also have experience of the medical entrance examinations: UKCAT and BMAT, of interviews and the general process of applying to medicine.

I have past experience of teaching: I was a piano teacher for 3 years before University and I also taught in the army cadets throughout sixth form. A bit about me: at university I enjoy playing hockey and have recently joined the rowing club.

About my sessions

I will start my lesson off by addressing the areas that are going to be covered, I will establish what the student already understands by a discussion before then moving on to explain the rest. I will then use some practice questions which we will go through together to put this into practice before asking the student to do a question on their own to ensure their understanding of the topic.

I will measure progress through questions that the student has done or by mini quizzes that we could do through a discussion.

I think a tutor having a passion for a subject is extremely important for encouraging learning as the student will pick up on this. I also believe that patience and encouragement from a tutor are massively important for successful learning. Patience to explain a topic again and find different ways to do so until a student understands and encouragement to show the student that they can do it and to believe in themselves.
