About me

I'm Josh and I'm a fourth year studying for a masters degree in Physics at the University of Exeter. I am highly passionate about Physics and its relation to Mathematics. I understand the importance of a solid basis of both Mathematics and Physics in any career.

In the summer of 2016, I did exams in A-level Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Biology. I took several small steps over the course of two years of A-level study to further solidify what I had learned in class. This included writing equation sheets, checklists and lastly but most importantly doing past papers. These habits have defined how I work and I am now able to work part-time as well as take part in the Exeter University Rowing and Entrepreneur societies at university without stress.

I believe the key to acing exams is to be self-confident and assured that you are fully prepared for your exams ahead. Without this self-confidence, many students will panic and fall at the first hurdle when presented with a question that is slightly different to what they have seen before. It is because of this that I want to provide every student I tutor with a self-awareness in where their weaknesses lie. I found that the best method of improving my exam confidence was doing questions on topics I struggled to understand. I will assign to every student questions to do before every session to target weaknesses that can be honed in on during the session.

About my sessions

When learning any new topic, I know I am at my best when I am comfortable with where my strengths and weaknesses in older topics lie. In order to gain a sense of a student's initial ability I will assign targeted past paper questions to do each session. I am most encouraged to learn when I know the exact areas of where I am making improvements in my ability. This improvement increases my self-confidence when tackling similar problems and drives me on to better myself in other areas. I wil...

I will, therefore, keep a checklist record of a students proficiency in each topic of the desired module to show their improvement over sessions. I can then hone in on teaching and revising these topics over further sessions and adjust the checklist accordingly. Each student can then see where their strengths and weaknesses lie over time and be encouraged by how they have improved.

thank you for all your help. Really deep-dived into topics beyond anything I would have learnt in the classroom to really give me an understanding of the reasons why things work the way do in physics.

Josh is excellent, explains things clearly, really helpful and goes the extra mile. He has really helped J get to grips with topics he's been struggling with. He is patient and easy to relate to, which helps with J asking questions and understanding the material. Thanks Josh!

Joshua really understood what I wanted and could help where others haven’t. He broke things down to my level when needed whilst still chucking in some “math” talk too. The session was very helpful.
