About me

Hi,


I am an undergraduate Physics student currently studying at the University of Warwick. The reason I chose to study Physics is because it is highly mathematical and challenges my mind like no other area. Physics uses evidence and experiments to describe and explain the phenomena that occur in nature and as a sceptical person, this interests me.


Having tutored many Year 12's and 13's, I have realised that everyone has a different style of learning. Some people prefer to learn things one way whilst that may not work for others. I am flexible and am able to tutor in any style that suits the student, be that intense work covering a lot of content or chilling out a bit and really understanding the fundamental concepts.


I will help my students improve and this is a promise.

About my sessions

I will do a lot of preparation before the lessons so that they are smooth and easy to understand. I would like to know in advance what areas to cover so that I can best prepare for that lesson. If a student is unsure of their strengths and weaknesses, we can have a diagnostic lesson in which I will test their knowledge on a whole of the subject and work from there. Lessons can consist of students bringing me difficult questions, concepts and anything in general which they need help with. I am also more than happy to help with personal statements.


I believe that the most important thing to understand when studying is that hard work gives results but not hard work alone. If you put in the work you will get the results but you will get there quicker if you work smarter. A tutor is not a short-cut to passing but it should make you work smarter and have someone to rely on.

Describe an experiment, using a pendulum, which can be conducted to investigate g, acceleration due to gravity.

Set up a clamp stand with pendulum bob hanging from a thread attached to the top of the clamp stand. Set up a protractor where the thread is attached to the stand. Set up a fiduciary marker as a point of reference. Using a metre ruler, start the length of the thread off at 1.0 m. Measure the length of thread from the centre of the pendulum bob to where it is held in place. Using the protractor at the top of the clamp stand, displace the pendulum by 10 degrees. Release the pendulum and using a stopwatch and the fiduciary marker, time 20 oscillations. Divide this time by 20 to give you the time period. Repeat this three times and calculate an average. Keeping the angle of release and using the same bob, reduce the length of thread by 0.1m and repeat the experiment. Continue up to a length of 0.1m. Tabulate the data, plot a graph of T2 against L and plot a line of best fit, checking if it goes through the origin ( which it should ). Calculate the gradient and divide 4Pi2 by the gradient.
