About me

Hi there! I'm a 23 year old graduate of King's College London, where I received a First-Class Honors in German with English Literature. The reason I chose this course was because I love literature but I've also always been interested in learning other languages. The reason I chose this course was because I love literature but I've also always been interested in learning other languages. I spent a year abroad living in Berlin, an experience which helped me to become fluent in German, as well as enabling me to understand the culture of Germany. I've studied medieval German Literature through to the modern age and I've also taken modules on the history, society, culture and films of Germany, as well modules on translation from German into English and vice-versa. I've studied English Literature from pre-Early modern through to post-modernism; I also have taken modules on creative writing and human rights literature.

Prior to working for mytutor.co.uk I worked at a private after-school tuition company in North West London. I have 2 years work experience as a tutor and have also worked in primary schools teaching English as a foreign language.

About my sessions

Firstly I will assess the level of my student through asking general questions as well as more topic-specific questions. Once I have established their level I will ask them about their goals and what they hope to get out of our sessions. If they have specific areas of concern/ upcoming exams I will also make a note of these and use these as a starting point for our lessons.

If they have specific areas of concern/ upcoming exams I will also make a note of these and use these as a starting point for our lessons.

My tutoring style varies depending on the subject I'm teaching. For English Literature for example, I believe dialogue is incredibly important; rather than just explaining something to my student I would rather have a discussion about a topic and help them to draw their own conclusions. This is because English is inherently subjective and there are rarely "wrong" answers. I would also encourage the student to look at what specific things examiners are looking for and help them bring these into their answers. If I were tutoring German then there would be more of an element of presentation in my teaching. If we were covering a particular element of grammar I would explain it, alongside examples of any exceptions and set homework from a textbook where they could practice and familiarise themselves with it. In either case I would use resources such as past exam papers as a way to measure a student's progress, but I would also hope to give my students a broader understanding of the topic by recommending them relevant books or other resources.
