I am a just about to complete my fourth year of University studies, after having spent the previous year on an intergrated placement, working as a research assistant in paediatric health and exercise. I chose to apply for this placement as I thoroughly love learning new information, not only in the field of my degree but also in other areas too. I hope to go into research when I graduate in order to continue teaching myself and informing others. In particular I want to work in the field of health as I love learning about our physiology and how we can manipulate it via exercise and diet to live our healthiest, happiest and most functional lives.

I work in an organised manner and believe that it is important to fully understand what it is you are trying to learn before progressing, as this helps to consolidate your learning, whilst helping you retain the information long term. I also find it is important to look at the wider context of what you are learning, and I therefore find it helpful to make mind maps of the broader aspects of the topic before centring in on the important additional information. I find this useful as I can then visualise this initial mind map and both remember and understand the broader concepts.

About my sessions

Before delivering a new session, I will ask the student what topic they would like to work on in the next session. I will then spend some time before this session preparing the content. This will consist of consulting the specification in the area the student would like to work on and creating a mind map of the key concepts from that point on the specification. From here I will consult text books and further resources to make notes on all of the important information on this topic, ensuring a...

Before delivering a new session, I will ask the student what topic they would like to work on in the next session. I will then spend some time before this session preparing the content. This will consist of consulting the specification in the area the student would like to work on and creating a mind map of the key concepts from that point on the specification. From here I will consult text books and further resources to make notes on all of the important information on this topic, ensuring all the information is included that the student will be examined on, and equally importantly ensuring that the student will understand the topic and the broader context. I will also find past paper questions and mark schemes relevant to the topic to go through throughout, and at the end of the session.

During the session itself, I will begin by asking the student what their current understanding of the topic is and what they find most difficult about the said topic. I will provide resources of the information needed for that topic and talk through the area in a logical manner - starting with the broader context and then narrowing in on the details. Once I have covered this content I will work through the past paper questions with the student and then explain the mark scheme. I will also check at the end of the session that the student feels they now understand the topic and ask whether there is anything they still find difficult.

Alice is a great tutor. All the content learned is very specific to the exam board and adapts to type of learning one wants, for example going over past paper questions and practice exam technique or general content.
