About me

Hi, my name is Amrit and I am a student currently studying at Queen Mary University of London. The course I am studying is BSc Computer Science with Year Abroad. I previously studied at Greenford High school and left with A*AB in my A-Levels and 13 GCSE’s A*-C.

My inspiration and love of the field came from my dad. My dad being a programmer, I was surrounded by his work from a young age and it was natural that it would rub off on me. Furthermore, I really enjoy the subject and its fun for me to create programs that accomplish tasks whether it’s an app or mini game.

I can tell you from past experiences that the best way to learn is through teaching. Hence, I will structure my sessions that will get the student to think and understand what they are learning. I encourage students to take this method outside of sessions too and help classmates to as that will only help them out more.

Not too long ago, I was part of the Air Training Corps (ATC) and I was a member there for around 5 years. My time there has given me a lot of experiences that are otherwise difficult to achieve. But most importantly, it thought me discipline, leadership and mentoring. Plus, I am also what a lot of people would call a ‘magician’. I have done performances in front of small groups of 5 people to an audience of 500 people. So, it’s fair to say that I like performing and doing performances. Hence public speaking isn’t a problem for me.

About my sessions

I will try to break down my sessions in the following way, reasons for what I do is also given so you have an idea why I do certain things that way.

· Ask student to recall last lesson and explain what was taught – It happens time and time again, students are always playing catch up as they completely forget what was taught in a class as soon as they walk out the door. This will help students understand what they have learnt as they would be ‘teaching’ me and it will also give me an ide...

This will help students understand what they have learnt as they would be ‘teaching’ me and it will also give me an idea where they are in class

· Help with any homework or questions – Here I would help the student with any quires with their homework or just any question in general to the best of my ability.

· Introduce or continue a topic – I would then proceed to actually go through new or existing content with the student. I would also ask the student to explain anything we did in a previous session to make sure they have understood everything and fill in any gaps that they may have.

To check the progress of students, I would randomly quiz them on the previous sessions we have done. I will encourage students to make a 3-5 person study group with people they will actually work with. In these groups, students can teach each other topics and repeat this process which will vastly help them. I will explain the most efficient way to do this to students in our sessions, but I have seen this method work for me and fellow students.

So far so good, my coding has improved, through his teaching. He simplifies all theories enough for me to understand he improves my strengths to levels I could never accomplish on my own! Aaron
