Hi I'm Harry, currently a Biochemistry student at the University of Birmingham. I have a deep interest in Japan and its language and culture, stemming from my Japanese background and the numerous times I have enjoyed experiencing the country firsthand. Because of this I am passionate in sharing what I enjoy most about Japan, and teaching the language is the best way to convey this I believe. I have a deep interest in Japan and its language and culture, stemming from my Japanese background and the numerous times I have enjoyed experiencing the country firsthand. Because of this I am passionate in sharing what I enjoy most about Japan, and teaching the language is the best way to convey this I believe. I have previously tutored a student from a very low level to achieving an A at GCSE, and have personal grades of A* and A at GCSE and AS. Using the knowledge and experience I have gained through doing this, as well as the high academic level at which I have worked at, I am able to teach science subjects also, explaining scientific and mathematical theories and ideas in a way that's understandable to the learner. Alongside this, I enjoy playing squash and many other sports.

About my sessions

Japanese:

Depending on the current experience of the tutee, I will aim to start in a way which will ease them into what I believe is a unique language to learn and different to the learning styles of many commonly taught European languages. For learning characters, I would work through the various stroke orders required, assigning prompts to help remember the sounds for each one. I structure my lessons partially based on what the tutee's weakness would be and put a greater emphasis...

Japanese:

Depending on the current experience of the tutee, I will aim to start in a way which will ease them into what I believe is a unique language to learn and different to the learning styles of many commonly taught European languages. For learning characters, I would work through the various stroke orders required, assigning prompts to help remember the sounds for each one. I structure my lessons partially based on what the tutee's weakness would be and put a greater emphasis on that, but would also aim to cover all of listening, reading, writing, and possibly speaking within a session, as these are all skills assessed by the examiner.

As for me, constant repetition was the key to learning and retaining my Japanese knowledge. Many of the complicated characters and grammatical rules can be easily forgotten, so constant exposure to these things was important at my time of study.

Sciences and Maths:

I will aim to get an idea of what level the individual is working and where their particular strengths and weaknesses lie. By asking them prior to the session what subject areas they would specifically like to cover, the aim would be to explain the content in a way that the student understands the most, working alongside questions together so that they understand every step of the process.

Harry is a fantastic tutor. He is patient, organised and explains the subject, in our case Japanese, really well. I would highly recommend Harry.
