Hello, my name is Amy, a third year medical student. Leaving school and being a medic means revision and exams have been part of my life for a long time now, and it doesn't stop just yet! Throughout the years, I have developed efficient revision styles personal to me, knowing we all learn differently as individuals. GCSEs/A-levels helped me create solid timetables for revision and dedicate allocated times to ensure I was covering every aspect of my learning and specification. Exams were not easy but preparation definitely made the process smoother, nerves were something to control but unfortunately are an inevitable part of the package! It was important for me to balance workload with activities that relaxed me such as baking and even making myself more financially dependent by starting a part-time job outside of school. Applying to medical school is a long intense process, with high entry requirements and strict criteria to meet, with massive competition for a places. By taking steps early (e.g. work experience, help with UCAS etc, admissions tests), I was able to secure an offer at medical school. Advice and constant support both immensely helped me along. This is something I have taken with me and hope my experience can also help others in their journey to becoming successful learners and maybe even future medics. At University, I am part of a few medical sub-societies and have played hockey for the university as a way of keeping fit and healthy.

About my sessions

I can help students improve by delivering a teaching style in a format that is individual to them, tailoring to their specific needs so that they get the fullest out of the time they spend online with me. My lessons would be structured in a way that is moulded around each student to maximise their learning, keeping the core building blocks of information that would useful to the current curriculum. It took trial and error for me to figure out what was best for me, and hopefully by identifying how each student learns most effectively, this would allow me to give back to students what I have learned over time. When learning languages, audio repetition and engagement was key, whereas with sciences, explanation and visual aids were helpful in enhancing my understanding of certain topics.

Learning styles that might suit you:

Visual: whiteboard explanations, diagrams, mind-maps, pictures etc.

Auditory: conversational (languages), video clips, sound/music

Verbal: writing, speech, reading

Kinaesthetic/physical: using body movements/physical actions to aid memory (this was helpful for me in my second year medical exams!)

Whatever way works best for you, I'm sure we could develop a format which is most valuable to you/the student.

Very useful; good in-depth explanations and use of diagrams. She also had practise questions for me to try on my own to apply what she taught me. Kind and patient

Amy always delivers informative sessions that have enabled me to enjoy and understand topics that I had difficulty with for A level chemistry.

Amy couldn't be more helpful, kind and supportive and she's very, very smart. She prepares lessons ahead of time, based on what areas/topics are requested to be worked on. She's just a brilliant find for my upcoming Chemistry A'Level.

I've had quite a few lessons with Amy, and I'm learning so much. I'm gaining loads of confidence with chemistry from her teaching! Thank you so much, Amy!
