About me

I read Chemistry at the University of Oxford, 2013 to 2017. I have always taken on leadership and mentor roles, for example as a gymnastics coach, a tutor in the wider community of Oxford and as the Chemistry representative for my college.

I believe that the most important part of tutoring is to make it challenging and fun. As a scientist you will always be faced with new subject matter, therefore I like to focus on how to approach problems, as this provides a much more practical use out of an education. I first like to ensure that the student has a good grounding in the subject, before introducing new subject matter. I hope that this method will largely remove the necessity for rote-learning, instead replacing it with a method of tackling questions. I hope that this technique can then be expanded into a variety of different uses.

In my spare time, I have a keen interest in a variety of different sports, including rugby, football and squash.

About my sessions

Before preparing and teaching a lesson, I consider it to be important to understand what the student's goals are. Once these are established I will ensure that I have prepared questions on the relevant topics that we will review, alongside background information and details that go beyond the course. I feel that additional information will not only help the student to understand and apply the information in more detail, but also make it more interesting.

I feel that additional information will not only help the student to understand and apply the information in more detail, but also make it more interesting.

I understand that each student is different and learns in a variety of ways, hence some of my lessons will be based on past papers while other will be more of a discussion; tutorial style. The structure of the lesson will typically consist of revising the material that is required before consolidating this with questions.
