About me

Hi! I'm Beth, a final year Law student at the University of Exeter. At A Level, I studied History, Government and Politics, and Economics - three subjects that I'm passionate about, even nearly three years later! Throughout my time studying at university, I have developed and maintained my interest in these three subjects, and learned to combine them with the skills I have learned studying Law. At A Level, I studied History, Government and Politics, and Economics - three subjects that I'm passionate about, even nearly three years later! Throughout my time studying at university, I have developed and maintained my interest in these three subjects, and learned to combine them with the skills I have learned studying Law. As a tutor, I am completely capable of teaching you subjects in a casual, laid-back manner - something that will hopefully help you integrate your knowledge (and give you a break from the formality of a classroom!). I can give you advice on structuring essays, and I'm a grammar pedant (apologies in advance), so you will hopefully learn to hone your own unique writing skills. I believe it is more important to integrate knowledge, so rather than teaching to test your memory, I will aim to teach to ensure you learn to love what you are learning!

About my sessions

I plan to structure my lessons holistically. This will mean that, apart from some pre-planned curriculum work, I intend to work on student's skills as and when they believe they need developing. I plan to structure my lessons holistically. This will mean that, apart from some pre-planned curriculum work, I intend to work on student's skills as and when they believe they need developing. Personally, I know I benefit from different types of learning throughout the year: memory is important near exams, but throughout the academic year I believe that nothing is more significant than honing your ability to apply and construct your knowledge. I want to get to know each student's preferences so that I may measure their progress to the best of my ability. I am a firm believe that no one person learns and applies knowledge in the same way: I want to ensure that each student applies their own measure of progress, rather than imposing it upon them. With this in mind, whilst I will check that students have an objectively high standard of knowledge via factual tests (i.e. recollection of cases, dates, or theories), I also want to have at least one unique check. This means having a student assess their own learning history, and developing points from this that need improvement. I will then make a record of this and, in every session I tutor that student, use my awareness of that particular student's strengths and weaknesses to assess their progress.
