About me

I am a student at the University of Nottingham studying French and Russian with Translation, I did French A Level at my sixth form college in London and for the two years I really enjoyed studying the language and learning about the culture. The reason I enjoyed it so much was largely due to the two teachers I had during both years as they made the lessons interactive so as to not make the subject dull, which ultimately helped me achieve an A in my final exams. I currently tutor a GCSE Year 11 student in French and he has seen improvement to the extent that his French teacher is now considering putting him in for the higher paper. I took maths A Level which I also got an A in and, again, this was largely due to my teacher in second year who, despite going through the content at at fairly fast rate, always made sure we understood the subject content before moving onto the next topic. It was thanks to this teaching method that our class was able to get a lot of revision time where we could do lots of practice questions before the real exams.

About my sessions

Every lesson I like to start with a few basic verb conjugations as I have found that getting the basics is often the best way to start as without these, students cannot progress on to form more complex sentences. Every lesson I like to start with a few basic verb conjugations as I have found that getting the basics is often the best way to start as without these, students cannot progress on to form more complex sentences. I then see what the student has been doing that week in their lessons, what themes have they been discussing and build up from there, using online resources to do practice reading and listening exercises and discussing topics verbally so as to practice speaking skills, which are required with the new GCSE specification.

For the maths I like to take a similar approach, going over what the student has covered that week and then doing practice questions with them in order to consolidate what they have learnt. In the case of GCSE students, I tend to find that going over past papers is a good way to cover a variety of topics and helps them prepare for the real exam, however if we find that there is a particular topic where there is significant difficulty then I always go back to that topic and make sure that the student fully understands it before attempting past papers again.
